Coordination During Data Acquisition and Reports

Our unrivaled experience in marine survey support services ensures a smooth and effective survey. SMS’s chase vessel coordinators maintain 24hr operations and communication, redirecting any vessels in the area, both commercial and fishing, that may endanger survey equipment. During the acquisition phase of operations we also continue to socialise with any operating or transiting fishing vessels either directly, or via radio, in an effort to ensure the ongoing safety of all fishing vessel crews as well as participating project personnel. Onshore socialisation is bolstered with our constant offshore socialisation efforts, distributing Notice to Mariner (NTM) flyers where ever and when ever it is safe to do so.

In addition to this, constant care and vigilance prevents the further placement of any fixed hazards and the removal of any dangerous floating debris from the path of the survey vessel. We can also provide any/all bathymetry readings as requested by the navigation department onboard the seismic vessel, especially in areas of charted shallow shoals and coastal line change corridors.

Chase vessel coordinators know and understand the importance of clear communication, and are at all times in contact with the bridge crew onboard the survey vessel, as well as the other chase vessels. Our daily chase vessel reports include bunker scheduling and updates, safety drills, vessel Health, Safety and Environment status and reports, activity logs, crew change schedules, and monitoring updates to ensure all crews are following HSE guidelines and seismic vessel directives.

Apart from daily  health, safety and environment updates, a complete detailed and comprehensive scouting report and project analysis is supplied at the completion of all surveys. Inclusive in all of our reports is the identification of removed fixed hazards, clearly photographed and itemised to assist in the processing of any compensation requirements.
